Developing leaders in Greater Cleveland 

Greater Cleveland is rich in opportunities for leaders at every stage of their careers. The Cleveland Foundation manages an array of programs aimed at building a diverse and robust pipeline of leaders, with an emphasis on creating exposure to Northeast Ohio’s nonprofit and philanthropic landscape.

Apply now for a Public Service Fellowship

There is still time to apply for a 2021-22 Public Service Fellowship with the Cleveland Foundation. Launched in 2016, the Public Service Fellowship immerses talented, emerging leaders from across the country in the work of Cleveland’s public sector, providing them an opportunity to develop their skills, enhance their networks, and jumpstart a career in public service. Applications are due Feb. 15.

Apply for a #SummerofPurpose by March 1

The deadline to apply for the 2021 Cleveland Foundation Summer Internship Program has been extended to March 1. The program gives local college students and recent grads an opportunity to work with Greater Cleveland nonprofit and public sector organizations during an 11-week paid summer internship. All majors and fields of study are welcome to apply, and in-line with the ongoing guidance of public health officials regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a variety of internship formats will be available, including virtual and hybrid.

Apply now for 2021-22 scholarships

The Cleveland Foundation offers more than 60 scholarships to help soon-to-be college students and adults returning to school. On average, awards range from $1,000-$3,000, and many are renewable for up to four years. We are now accepting applications for the 2021-22 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 15.

Cleveland Foundation leaders honored

Two members of the Cleveland Foundation leadership team were recently honored for their contributions to the Greater Cleveland community. Cleveland Foundation President & CEO Ronald B. Richard was named to Crain’s Cleveland Business’ Power 150 list highlighting some of Northeast Ohio’s most influential leaders. Senior Vice President of Program India Pierce Lee was recognized by the Cleveland Public Library as the recipient of the Drum Major for Change Award on Jan. 17 as part of the library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

Reflections on leadership from the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards canon

The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, America’s only book prize focusing on works that address racism and diversity, has honored works by some of the country’s most influential thought leaders. Reflections on leadership from the collection of winners include The Autobiography of Malcolm X, John Lewis’ memoir Walking with the Wind, and The Gay Revolution by Lillian Faderman. Recent Leadership Development grants

  • Community Partnership on Aging ($85,120) – To provide balanced, healthy meals to seniors in need while also lessening the impact of isolation; and to connect seniors aging in place with Communities Assisting Residential Elders (CARE) services ranging from small home repairs to larger scale projects provided by volunteers or corporate teams
  • Business Volunteers Unlimited ($110,000) – To support capacity building activities that will allow the organization to responsively meet the increased demand for critical nonprofit services
