Cleveland Foundation seeks Criminal Justice Fellow
As part of our ongoing and critical racial equity-centered efforts, the Cleveland Foundation has begun a process to better understand the criminal justice landscape and assess where we can be most impactful. To that end, we are seeking a Criminal Justice Fellow for a two-year term to develop guiding principles for supporting criminal justice reform in Greater Cleveland that aligns, honors and adds value to existing and developing efforts by community stakeholders. By effectively using foundation networks and resources, the fellow will help assess the landscape, build relationships with sector leaders (both within and outside formal organizations and institutions), and define the role philanthropy is best suited to play in the current context. With guidance from an advisory partnership of our staff and community stakeholders, the fellow will create an equity-based criminal justice portfolio approach for the foundation to pursue in both the short- and long-terms. This criminal justice framework should align foundation values and strategic planning goals and propose steps for the foundation to best impact criminal justice reform in Northeast Ohio and statewide. Interested candidates should respond by April 1.

More than a summer job
COVID-19 has taken a massive toll on the economy, and disengaged youth (ages 16 to 24) were among the hardest hit, with unemployment jumping to nearly 30% in April 2020 for this group versus 13% among older adults. Research recently completed for Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) by the Case Western Reserve University Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development indicates that a job provides the best path forward and is the best predictor of future success for youth.
